Organic Certification enforcement

  • How do I know that I’m paying for the real thing? People who sell or label a product “organic” when they know it does not meet USDA standards can be fined up to 11,000 for each violation. (From: USDA)

  • An Organic Field Inspector will contact a food producer to schedule an inspection of the business. The inspector will be evaluating grower’s management practices for organic crops and products, as well as grower’s practices to protect organic crops and products from contamination. A food producer will need to have all related records available for review at the inspection. (From: Dept of Agr, WA)
